Book Review – The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

the mime orderIt is a dark time for clairvoyants. Scion is in league with the Rephaim, an extraordinarily powerful, otherworldly race that intends to make humans its slaves.

In an unprecedented feat of bravery, Paige Mahoney has succeeded in leading a mass break-out from the brutal camp, Sheol I, where she and other clairvoyants were systematically imprisoned.

Paige is desperate to reach the safety of the London underworld, but the ruthless leader of the Rephaim, Nashira Sargas, is not likely to let her escape so easily…

The Mime Order just blew me away!

It was great to get back to the universe of the Bone Season, and seeing more of the London crowd was fantastic. I really like all those characters and especially enjoyed seeing more of Eliza and Nick. Jaxon was brilliantly morally grey leaning towards evil which I also loved.

Paige really comes into her own some more in this book, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that. I liked her arc in the second half of the book particularly, how she starts to realise what effect she can have. The penny dreadful felt inspired!

I feel the book shone a little more for getting out of Sheol 1 and facing up to the real world a bit more – an easier life maybe, but a longer fight. And that came through really well.

Throughout the book I was definitely at a high 4.5 star rating wise, until the last page. THAT BOMBSHELL. I did not see that coming and it is amazing. Definitely worth pushing the book into the full five stars. I need a copy of The Song Rising right now! 😂
