Book Review – High Rise Mystery by Sharna Jackson

The detective duo everyone is dying to meet!
Summer in London is hot, the hottest on record, and there’s been a murder in THE TRI: the high-rise home to resident know-it-alls, Nik and Norva. Who better to solve the case? Armed with curiosity, home-turf knowledge and unlimited time – until the end of the summer holidays anyway.
The first whodunnit in a new mystery series by Sharna Jackson.

My rating:

Finally a modern-day middle-grade mystery! Once I found out about this, I knew I had to get it.
Nik and Norva are sisters living in a London tower block who are keen detectives. Normally this just involves keeping records on all their neighbours, but when a neighbour they are close with is killed – who better to solve the case? Especially when the main suspect is closer to home than they’d like.
I found this fresh and funny. All the characters have nuance and depth, plus we have a wealth of diversity which is fantastic. Nik and Norva are complete opposites too – one focused on facts and deductions, while the other is more outgoing and relies on gut feelings. Instead of clashing though, they work together really well.
I also liked that while the adults were sometimes a little dismissive of our young detectives, they were never dismissive of them as kids (or people!).
Honestly such a lovely read! 4.5 stars.
