Book Review – Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart
In a world where women have no rights, sisters Serina and Nomi Tessaro face two very different fates: one in the palace, the other in prison.
Serina has been groomed her whole life to become a Grace–someone to stand by the heir to the throne as a shining, subjugated example of the perfect woman. But when her headstrong and rebellious younger sister, Nomi, catches the heir’s eye, it’s Serina who takes the fall for the dangerous secret that Nomi has been hiding.
Now trapped in a life she never wanted, Nomi has only one way to save Serina: surrender to her role as a Grace until she can use her position to release her sister. This is easier said than done. A traitor walks the halls of the palace, and deception lurks in every corner. But Serina is running out of time, imprisoned on an island where she must fight to the death to survive and one wrong move could cost her everything.

My rating:

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! And I definitely can’t wait for book 2 as it just felt like things were getting started!
The world is quite oppressive for women and I liked what we what found out about why – though I was amused the men thought that would stop us 😉 as I hope they will find out in the next book hehe. The whole concept of the graces and owning women is just vile, but I did quite like some of the detail that went along with it.
I also liked the early “twist” for the sisters – though why Serina didn’t say that she had it memorised I don’t know! It was nice to see a change up in expectations for the girls, and also for it to almost be the opposite of a main character being found to be special. They were, but not in the obvious ways.
The prison was utterly horrific and seemed so pointless – the guards were vile. But I loved all of those scenes really, and what Serina accomplished there.
Nomi on the other hand was a bit more meh for me, as much as she had more fire. Only for what she went through though – I do like her character, and that she did realise something even if it was late on. I am definitely keen to see how that all plays out!
A 4.5 star read, for sure!
