Book Review – Venom by Bex Hogan

Marianne has never wanted to be a fighter, but with unrest and discord threatening the Twelve Islands, she will have to battle threats both inside and out in an attempt to attain peace for her homeland.
Marianne is now the Viper, but her hopes for peace in the Eastern Isles are being frustrated. The corrupt King remains on the throne, bandits are proving hard to stop and Marianne is not sure who among her crew she can truly trust.
For the islands to prosper, the invisible bond that once existed uniting land and sea must be reinstated. There’s only one way that can happen – the return of magic. To do that Marianne must put aside all her fears: she must return to her roots, the Western Isles, and call on the power that runs in her blood.
She must become a Mage.
Only then, can she possibly command the army needed to finally take down the King.

My rating:

BEX HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?????
I loved Viper, and was so excited to be returning to this universe. I dove into Venom with enthusiasm, and loved it from the first page.
As before, we follow Marianne, and in this case we start with her wedding and it really goes down hill from there! Everytime things may go her way something comes along to make it worse! It’s sort of excellent, if heartbreaking. 😂
My only half-complaint about this book is that we don’t know what’s going on outside what Marianne knows. While this is expected in a single POV book, it’s frustrating as I love the other characters and I want to know they’re okay! Ha. But that’s something I am sure we will learn in the last book, and hardly a real complaint at all.
I particularly loved Marianne’s time with the Snow Horses and on twelfth isle – the twists and turns at the end had me holding my breath!
Poor Marianne really is abused in this book, somewhat literally, so be aware of that, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! Why is Vulture so far away??
