Book Tag – Book Adaptation Tag

I have been tagged by Ellie over at Eleanor Sophie Writes to do the Book Adaptation Tag. Thanks Ellie! I thought it was really intriguing and I was keen to give it a go. I have cheated though and used both movies and TV, as I am not the biggest movie watcher.

I’m not sure who started this tag, so if you know, please let me know 🙂

Book Adaptation Tag

What is the last book adaptation movie you saw?

I watched the Peter Rabbit movie with friends in the first lockdown, it’s surprisingly good! Other than that, I can’t think of much – perhaps marvel movies?! TV wise, definitely Winx and The Babysitters Club. 🙂

What book movie are you most excited for?

Shadow and Bone! I am BEYOND excited to see how they are going to combine the Grisha trilogy with the Six of Crows duology. And the trailers make it look great!

Which upcoming book movie will you definitely not see

Firefly Lane, I think – I’m not bothered by the concept and mildly put off by Katherine Heigl really.

Which book movie would you NEVER watch again?

The original Percy Jackson movies! They’re so bad. They completely changed so much, and made the utterly wonderful and badass Annabeth really lame. I’m so excited for the new stuff though, I remain hopeful on that.

Is there a movie you saw that made you want to read the book, if you hadn’t yet?

The Lord of the Rings. I made it through book one after the first movie came out, but never made it to The Two Towers. They’re so wordy! I would like to at some point, because I love the movies, but we shall see.

Conversely, is there a movie that made you never want to read the book?

I can’t think of one, but I am not sure there are many that I’ve not already read the book for. I couldn’t think of any.

Name an adaptation that has almost nothing to do with the book it’s supposedly based on.

There are some pretty terrible ones! I’m picking The girl on the Train because it felt like a pretty terrible adaption. It really missed the point of the book and lost a lot of the subtelty. While not my favourite book by a long shot, the movie was frankly awful.

Have you ever left the theater during a movie adaptation because it was so bad?

I’ve never left the cinema during any movie! I can’t even imagine doing so.

Do you prefer to watch the movie first, or read the book first?

Oh definitely book first. If I can. I can’t always manage it and try not to let it rule whether or not I see a movie.

How do you feel about movie adaptations that age characters up? (ex. Characters that are in middle school, but in the movies they’re all 18+)

I wish they wouldn’t! One of the things I loved about the recent Babysitters Club TV series was that it was age appropriate.

Do you get angry when the actors don’t look like you thought the characters would?

Never, because I’m one of those people that doesn’t picture the books they read. Plus I’d rather the right actor was picked for talent than looks.

Is there a movie you liked better than its book?

The Fellowship of the Ring. Cut out the first half of boring bits, and keep to the adventure. Much better. 😀 (sorry Tolkein fans!)

Name a book that you would love to see as a movie.

The Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers – I really need to see A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet on the big screen. While I’m not sure that it would translate well, I love the book so much and just want more in any format 😀

I tag Becky at Uptown Oracle and Lauren at Northern Plunder, as I think their answers would be really interesting. But feel free to steal it if you enjoyed my answers!

What’s your favourite adaptation?
