Book Review – The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

the raven king

The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.

All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death. She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

This series really spoke to me more than I thought it would. And this ending was lovely. It didn’t necessarily give me everything I wanted, but in that it was perfect – it’s like life, nothing works out nice and neatly, and you don’t always get what you’ve been working towards.

Gansey’s long awaited quest for Glendower finally gets resolved and everything about it is lovely.

Plus Ronan. Oh I just want to hug him even though I know he’d hate that! Plus the scenes with Declan and Matthew are glorious.

I thought I’d hate new people being added but I loved Henry and what he brought to the group. Plus we get to see Blue soften to him as well as some of his reasoning which all works.

My heart is broken over certain spoilery things so I won’t discuss, just say that they are wonderful and sob worthy at the same time.

Piper is the first villain in this series that really sort of worked for me, but honestly part of me feels that this series didn’t need a villain. I mean, obviously it wouldn’t be the same without it, but the atmosphere and the intrigue of cabeswater just work so well for me. But without the impetus to push them along, maybe they’d never have finished the hunt 😉

Just a lovely series and I’m so glad I marathoned it.
