Book Review – The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind by Jackson Ford

For Teagan Frost, sh* just got real.
Teagan Frost is having a hard time keeping it together. Sure, she’s got telekinetic powers – a skill that the government is all too happy to make use of, sending her on secret break-in missions that no ordinary human could carry out. But all she really wants to do is kick back, have a beer, and pretend she’s normal for once.
But then a body turns up at the site of her last job – murdered in a way that only someone like Teagan could have pulled off. She’s got 24 hours to clear her name – and it’s not just her life at stake. If she can’t unravel the conspiracy in time, her hometown of Los Angeles will be in the crosshairs of an underground battle that’s on the brink of exploding…
Full of imagination, wit, and random sh*t flying through the air, this insane adventure from an irreverent new voice will blow your tiny mind.

My rating:

This book is laugh out loud funny in places, which is impressive as it’s fairly high octane throughout. I think the title sums it up perfectly – it tells you what the book is about and makes you laugh at the same time!
Teagan is stuck in a government job she can’t get out of, until one day a body turns up – killed in a way only she could have done, but Teagan knows she didn’t do it.
I love how Teagan isn’t actually the easiest person to get to know, and you can see that in the relationships she has with her coworkers. But as the book progresses, you can also see that she has fairly understandable reasons! And she’s abrasive and funny in a way that I found endearing – even if I’m not at all sure we’d get on in real life!
The murder mystery parts are good fun, and while we don’t have enough information to put together why it is happening, we do still get to follow along. It’s actually quite cleverly done – we get just enough information to be slightly ahead of Teagan but not by much.
While obviously science fiction, that part is kept quite light. We get some background, but the book concentrates more on the application of the powers (with some frankly hilarious commentary on their use) than how they actually work or came about.
I am definitely eager to read book two, which is luckily sitting on my shelf right now, begging to be picked up! 4 stars.
