Synopsis

we three witches book cover

1930s haunted York.

Viola Samphire was once part of a coven of four powerful witches, but now only three survive. A devastating fire in an artist’s studio led to Edie dying of smoke inhalation. When Viola discovers that the fire was no accident, she hunts for clues, but she is getting used to a new witch ability – to see ghosts. Most importantly, she can see the ghost of Edie, the witch who died in the fire, and her unrequited love. With the help of her friends, witches Bea and Merle, and her beloved bones she throws to show her fate, Viola knows she will discover who killed Edie. But Vi’s bones are stolen. And children are dying, Vi can see their ghosts. What if everything is connected? A stolen gift, a murderer, an underground network of spirits with corruption rife…

And Viola soon realises that admitting her love for Edie could change the course of their future, could it even bring Edie back from the dead?

Review

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I love how Rosie writes 😍 this prequel to the Sixteen Souls series is so wonderful. It was lovely getting to see Edie and Viola’s story, and more of the Hand.

I found it interesting that this book felt very much more an occult normative world than Sixteen Souls does, though. I think possibly because the girls are growing up in a family that accepts it, and there would be less acceptance elsewhere. Though we do see Viola advertise her readings and people accept them, so who knows 😂 My only other tiny quibble is that I couldn’t remember when it was supposed to be set and theres little to date it in the book itself. That’s good in many ways because the time period isn’t too relevant, but was slightly frustrating for me as I was trying to tie it to Sixteen Souls and wasn’t sure of the gap.

Aside from that though I loved everything about it. This truly is such a lovely world and I can’t wait for more in it.

4.5 stars.
